Business Isn't Boring!

The Spring Congregational Meeting was held on Sunday, April 19. And what a great opportunity it was to reflect on God’s many blessings in the life of Redeemer Covenant Church! We shared highlights from our ministry in 2014, as we are looking forward to what God has in store for us in 2015.

Honoring our Confirmands

Sunday, May 3, you can show your support and encouragement to our third year students who will be confirmed during the 8:45 am service. The younger confirmation students will also participate in this service. You are invited to a cake reception to greet the students from 10-10:45 am in the multipurpose room. The 11 am celebration service will include a time of faith stories by the students.

Even if you don’t personally know these confimation students, this is a time of celebration for the entire Redeemer family. Come and honor the confirmands with your presence, your words of encouragement and your prayers.

Saving a Child

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. We can all agree that child abuse is horrific. There are different forms of abuse. Domestic Violence in the home is one form of child abuse. When children witness violence in the home, they react in a variety of ways and adopt various coping skills to survive. Some examples are:

  • Physical : Sleep problems, headaches, stomach aches, frequent illnesses
  • Social: Distrustful, poor conflict resolution skills, difficulty making friends, avoiding going home
  • Behavioral: Acting out, withdrawn, bullying, bed wetting, thumb sucking, caretaking, low self esteem, running away, chemical abuse, pre-delinquent behavior
  • Feelings: powerless, guilty, angry, confused, afraid, isolated, anxious, ashamed

Each year, between 3.3 million and 10 million children witness domestic violence, and of those at least 40% will be abused themselves. Domestic Violence and abuse are not a private matter. It affects all of us, and it affects the children who cannot help themselves. If you see a behavior that suggests a child may be living in an abusive environment, you can be a positive role model, model non-violent problem solving, be present, be supportive, be a good listener.

If you would like to talk more about this, please contact Kathy Turgeon from Redeemer's AVA (Advocacy for Victims of Abuse) team, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
