Sunday Classes

Studying God's Perspective for our Lives

Growing in faith and knowledge is a lifelong process that strengthens our relationship with Christ. Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will."

As our understandings of His Word deepens, we grow in our ability to understand God's perspective. And with a renewed understanding of His will, we can grow in our ability to discern it in our daily lives.

Join us at 10 am on Sundays for classes focused on deepening our knowledge of the Bible and our relationship with God, a program we call Disciple University. Disciple U runs from September through May and offers a number of different class options to choose from. No need to sign up; just pick a topic you like, and come grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

Current Classes

Join any class, any time! All are welcome.

20s and 30s Class - Led by Rich Eckart and Tim Gustafson in Room 11
Young adults in their 20s and 30s will continue a study on Tough Questions. Using The Questions Christians Hope No One Will Ask, by Mark Mittelberg, we will explore some of the difficult questions Christians encounter, and sometimes fear being asked. Why believe God exists? Why would God allow evil and suffering? Why trust the Bible? How could a loving God send people to hell? Touch questions need real answers. Childcare will be provided. Contact Rich Eckart with any questions.

Twelve Step Christianity - Facilitated by Bev Scripter in the Memorial room
Most people have heard of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Twelve Steps but don’t really understand how the program works. It actually came out of Oxford, England, with a small group of men who firmly believed God could save them from their insanity of drinking. Now a counselor from Hazelden has translated these steps to apply to everyday living of our Christian faith. Come see how this could be helpful for you. (Twelve Step Christianity: The Christian Roots & Application of the Twelve Steps – by Saul Selby, ISBN 1-56838-561-7, published by Hazelden)

Class for Women - Walking with Jesus - Facilitated by Marian Johnson in the Prayer room
This class will continue with the program Design for Discipleship, published by Navigators. They will conclude their study on “Integrity in Living” and move on to “Character in Action," dealing with experiences that are common to all of us. There are lessons God wants us to learn even when we are in pain, are ill, dealing with disappointment, and even in sorrow and death. We have the promise of God's sovereign purpose in shaping the inner qualities of our lives.

Class on Islam - Facilitated by Al Fairbanks in the Choir room
This class will look briefly at the history of Islam including: (a) pre-Islamic Arabia, the life of Muhammad, the Qur’an, Sunna and Hadiths, some of the beliefs and practices of Islam, Islamic Law (Sharia), divisions within Islam; (b) growth and expansion of Islam to the present time; (c) history of the interactions between Islam and Christianity; (d) how Islam views Christianity and Judaism; (e) dialogue with and witness to Muslims. Questions are welcomed at all times both during the class, as well as at other times. It would be most helpful if questions are given to Al in writing. The plan is to start by looking at some of the biblical issues that arose during Aaron Hardley’s class on Immigration. These issues are basic and important and must be kept clearly in view in our consideration of Islam and our interactions with Muslims.
